Upgrading/Downgrading your Minecraft Server Plan

Upgrading or Downgrading Your Minecraft Server Plan

Overview

This guide explains how to upgrade or downgrade your Minecraft server plan with Obsidian Servers. Whether you need more resources for a growing player base or want to scale down during quieter periods, our billing system makes it easy to adjust your plan.

When to Upgrade or Downgrade

  • Upgrade when you need:

    • More RAM for larger mod packs or plugins
    • Support for more concurrent players
  • Downgrade when:

    • Your server has fewer players than anticipated
    • You're running fewer resource-intensive plugins
    • You want to reduce monthly costs

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Log in to the Obsidian Servers billing system

  2. Click on "Services"

  3. Find the Minecraft server you wish to modify and click on it

  4. On the service details page, look for the "Upgrade/Downgrade" button

    • This is typically located near your current plan details
  5. The system will display available plan options:

    • Plans with more RAM than your current plan are upgrades
    • Plans with less RAM than your current plan are downgrades
  6. Select your desired plan from the list

  7. Review the changes in resources and pricing

    • The system will calculate any prorated amounts for mid-cycle changes
  8. Click "Continue" to proceed

  9. Review your order summary

  10. Complete the process by clicking "Confirm Order"

Billing Considerations

  • Upgrades: You'll be charged the difference between your current plan and the new plan, prorated for the remaining days in your billing cycle
  • Downgrades: You'll receive account credit for the difference between your current plan and the new plan, prorated for the remaining days in your billing cycle

Important Notes

  • Server data will be preserved during plan changes
  • Your server may experience a brief restart during the upgrade/downgrade process
  • Changes typically take effect within a few minutes of confirmation

If you have any questions about changing your plan or need assistance determining the right resources for your needs, please contact our Billing Support department for guidance.
